UMGC Ventures is an innovative business model for higher education that funds, develops and launches new innovative ventures that help higher education institutions compete more effectively in an era of rapid change. UMGC Ventures is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) supporting organization created by University of Maryland Global Campus.
Since 2017, UMGC Ventures has successfully launched and managed two portfolio businesses: AccelerEd, an IT Managed Services business that supports all IT operations for UMGC as its anchor partner; and HelioCampus, a data and analytics business that went through a successful exit in 2020, and for which UMGC Ventures retains an equity investment and board affiliation.
